PoliteChild®
courses are intrinsically designed
to capture the attention and interest of the
student in age-appropriate ways. Our curriculum combines conceptual
instruction with hands-on activities and other engaging teaching
techniques.
We understand
that the lack of social skills in our children is a systemic
problem. Ours is the only program that approaches the issue
from all angles, which is one of the keys to our effectiveness.
Courses
can be brought in singly, or as a series, to suit the needs
of any school or district.
Courses
for Public Schools
Any of our courses are appropriate for the public school environment,
and can be adapted to suit a variety of delivery methods. Our
most popular courses for public school use are:
SocialSmarts™
(our standard introductory class that every student attends
before they are eligible for further classes – we want
everyone to know the basics and be on a level playing field.)
Exploring
the Virtues™ (Part
I, Part II,
or both)
CollegePrepSmarts™
JobSmarts™
Intermediate
Dining and Table Manners (in conjunction
with a meal served at a local restaurant or hotel)
The combination
of SocialSmarts and Exploring the Virtues courses cover a typical
school year by offering approximately 30 weeks of lesson plans.
Implementations
at the whole-grade, school, or district level are most effectively
done through our licensing program that allows schools to have
master document sets and to control reproduction, distribution,
and delivery. Licensing offers an affordable way to make major
social culture changes in your school or district in a broad
and immediate way.
Curriculum
Structure, Delivery, and Content
The curriculum is efficiently structured and well laid-out,
following a master design that is consistent throughout all
PoliteChild classes.
Class lessons
are flexibly designed so that they can stand-alone as an extracurricular
offering, or be integrated into the school’s core curriculum,
with any desired frequency. In fact, recognizing that teachers
and administrator’s don’t need just “one more
extra thing” to add to their already-overscheduled lesson
plans, PoliteChild courses come complete with activity ideas
and enrichment suggestions that can complement the current curriculum,
emphasizing reading, discussion and presentations, writing,
or art and music activities. Each of our courses is somewhat
different: some courses may be based on well-known literature,
fables, historical events, famous figures, personal case studies,
etc. We make each of our classes interesting, engaging, and
relevant to the students at their grade and developmental
level.
There are
several components to every PoliteChild course that work together
to provide a complete solution.
In-class
lessons are supplemented by a
variety of unique support tools. Each course
comes with a Student's Workbook with handouts and exercises
from each of the classes. Students also use and receive a selection
of special take-home teaching aids that help them learn, practice,
and absorb the week's lessons.
Each course
also comes with a Parent's Guide which contains information
from the child's class such as review handouts, reminders, and
activity sheets, but also includes information to educate parents
about their child's learning and social development, and to
aid them in reinforcing and practicing the class lessons between
sessions. The parent materials are designed to empower parents
and other caregivers to be positive primary role models in students’
lives, and also to assist in getting them involved as leaders
and partners in the social skills education process.
Parent’s
Guides are also available in Spanish-language versions as a
resource to the significant Hispanic population in this country.
